Our Top 10 Moments of 2018
Happy New Year to all of our customers near and far! 2018 went by in a flash. For us here at Gerber Technology, it was a year full of insightful innovations, collaborations, and exciting announcements!
So, in no particular order, here are our top 10 moments from 2018:
Gerber Technology celebrates 50 years of innovation transforming the apparel industry!
For over 50 years Gerber Technology has been working with its customers to produce innovative software and automation solutions. From the creation of the automation production system in 1967 to the first pattern software in 1998, to launching the first IoT and CAD and PLM in the Cloud, to the recently announced fully connected On Demand workflow. Gerber is constantly innovating to continue to provide the best possible technology to produce the best possible results.
For our 20th anniversary year of ideation in 2018, we took our annual conference to Miami Beach, one of the hottest design and fashion incubators in the world! Our customers and partners traveled from near and far to experience hands-on training and breakout sessions, and to also hear first-hand from Rebecca Minkoff, who shared her formula for success in the industries we serve. Equally exciting was the announcement that Gerber had acquired Avametric, a San Francisco based technology company that enables brands to deliver accurate 3D renderings of their apparel and accessories on customizable digital body models for the web, mobile and Augmented Reality.
Avametric Joins the Gerber Family
Can you count Academy Award winners among your colleagues? Well, we can! Our new colleagues from Avametric are visual effects experts who have appeared in the credit roll of over 45 films and have received two Academy Awards for their efforts. Having applied their CGI gloss to films like Jurassic Park and Minority Report, the team is now bringing their skill to Gerber, where we’ll be focused on perfecting our end-to-end digital solutions to help our customers achieve an end-to-end eco-system of 3D visualization tools that allows them to create and view 3D assets for the design and development process.
Innovation Integrated: Decades of innovation now seamlessly integrated.
In October 2018 Gerber Technology acquired MCT Digital, a company with state-of-the-art software and finishing technology, to help customers streamline their workflows, improving productivity and overall efficiency. With the rapid rise of digital printing, adding modular laser cutting technology to their existing industrial strength finishing solution hardware and software portfolio gives Gerber a key technology platform suited to serve many industries.
Gerber Partners with ExactFlat
Gerber has partnered with ExactFlat to help customers achieve increased efficiency, decreased cost and speed to market and who are looking for technology that digitizes workflows for greater productivity. After all, digitalization is important to all of the industries we serve! We partnered with ExactFlat to continue advancement in 3D workflows for the furniture, transportation and other technical textiles. The integration of 3D to 2D digital flattening tools allows companies to quickly transition from design concept to production. With the use of ExactFlat, 3D files are transferred to production patterns which are ready for nesting and cutting, making the entire process very seamless and easy.
FashionTech Platform 1.0
Gerber launches FashionTech Platform 1.0, enabling purchase-activated fashion through collaboration with OnPoint Manufacturing. The personalization economy is creating challenges for fashion and apparel brands trying to keep pace with consumer expectations and needs. To address this need, Gerber Technology is launching FashionTech Platform 1.0, which includes software, equipment and consulting to set-up a purchase-activated fashion model with a digitally integrated e-commerce and on-demand design to print, cut and sew micro-factory operation. The first FashionTech Platform 1.0 installation will be implemented in partnership with OnPoint Manufacturing in Florence, Alabama and PAAT, Inc. in Nashville, Tennessee.
Texprocess and the Debut of “Gerbie”
At Texprocess this year, in collaboration wiith Kornit Digital and Henderson Sewing Machine Co., we showcased how digitalization can make purchase-activated manufacturing and mass customization a reality. Attendees at Texprocess experienced our full end-to-end, on-demand “micro-factory” exhibit that demonstrated how—in today’s “see now, buy now” on demand world—manufacturers can digitize their process and increase their overall efficiency, while also reducing their inventory without impacting customer satisfaction or quality. “Gerbie,” an autonomous mobile robot, collected bundled cut parts and transported them from the design-print-cut area to a robotic sewing station across the aisle at the Henderson Sewing Designed Gantry Robotic Sewing Station.
